  3. i have been looking around in gisarea.com especially in RS-GIS Area Sharing Section, sometimes i found a programs/tutorial with many link (part by part). i think we can start to upload a torrent for any file, we can start with public torrent maybe we can upload in TPB or Kickass torrent, its look like more easy to share via p2p, single link and file can be eternal in internet (if have seeder). anyway sharing via p2p we can resume our donwload anytime. this is just a suggestion because some of book/program in RS-GIS Area Sharing is difficult to find.

  4. Hi everybody, maybe you go to find useful I am making a map in Map Info. Huge, a lot of layers, included contours at 5 m. I am using what I think it is a strong laptop. I7, 16 GB memory, a SSD disk. But MapInfo is still hanging often, meaning when I select a contour I must expect time to time over 10 seconds to fulfil the command. Same for redrawing and others. I just install software, PrimoCache. It is doing something like an extra cache for the disks, outside of windows normal buffers. Everything is working faster now included other jobs. Mapinfo especially. The software is a shareware with a generous trial, 90days. Maybe will be useful; also for other GIS Regards www.romexsoftware.com/en-us/primo-cache

  5. Facebook is purchasing messaging giant WhatsApp for $16 billion in cash and stock, according to a regulatory filing. The deal is being cut for $12 billion in Facebook shares, $4 billion in cash and an additional $3 billion in RSUs for employee retention. A termination fee is attached to the deal that would cost Facebook $1 billion in cash and $1 billion in shares if the deal fails to pass regulatory muster. The post notes that WhatsApp will continue to operate independently and retain its brand. In addition, WhatsApp co-founder and CEO Jan Koum will join Facebook’s board. Facebook notes that WhatsApp has over 450 million MAUs, with 70 percent of those active each day. In a staggering comparison, Facebook also notes that the messaging volume of WhatsApp approaches the SMS volume of the entire global telecom industry — and that it’s adding 1 million users a day. “WhatsApp is on a path to connect 1 billion people. The services that reach that milestone are all incredibly valuable,” said Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook founder and CEO in a statement. source : http://techcrunch.com/2014/02/19/facebook-buying-whatsapp-for-16b-in-cash-and-stock-plus-3b-in-rsus/

  6. Sony will sell its struggling PC business to a Japanese investment firm, the company said Thursday, meaning the slick “Vaio” brand could all but disappear from markets outside Japan. Tokyo-based investment fund Japan Industrial Partners (JIP) will operate the Vaio PC brand under a newly established firm and initially sell PCs in Japan only. The moves come as Sony said it now expects a net loss of ¥110 billion ($1.1 billion) for the year to the end of March, a reversal of its October forecast for net profit of ¥30 billion. Vaio, which Sony introduced in 1996, looks set to vanish from most markets, at least for short term, as the new company will initially concentrate on selling consumer and corporate PCs in Japan. Whether or not Sony will continue to produce products under the Vaio brand remains to be seen, Sony said. Although Sony is selling its PC business, it will continue to produce tablet computers, part of its renewed focus on mobile devices including smartphones. Sony did not put a price on the sale, but a report in Japanese business daily Nikkei pegged it at about ¥40 billion to ¥50 billion. Sony will take a 5 percent stake in the new firm, it said. Sony will stop making and selling PCs after its 2014 Spring lineup launch, but about 250 to 300 Sony staff, including some from a subsidiary that produces TV sets, cameras and computers at factories in Japan, will be hired by the new company, which is to be based at the hub of Sony’s current PC business in Japan’s Nagano Prefecture. The Vaio sale was announced along with Sony’s earnings results for the October-December period, in which it posted an operating loss of ¥12.6 billion for the Mobile Products & Communications unit, which is responsible for PCs, sales of which were down significantly. The results were better than the ¥21.3 billion loss a year earlier. source : http://www.pcworld.com/article/2095180/sony-sheds-vaio-pc-business-turns-tv-unit-into-subsidiary.html
