  1. One issue with the current version of Google Earth is you can't show subsurface information. GE doesn't let you show data below its 3D rendered surface. So, for example, showing underground geological features, or wells for example. Valery Hronusov from Russia's Academy of Science in Perm, Russia has come up with an interesting innovation He has used KMLer application to convert a GIS dataset showing an oil repository Google Earth File. You must have GE installed. and related information. His innovation is to show the sub-surface data above the site where it is located underground. Valery is a very innovative guy with lots of interesting data at his fingertips. see KMLer sites [hide] http://kmler.geoblogspot.com/ [/hide] nice idea, dont you

  3. Hey everyone, I recently acquired a data for my thesis, which basically comprises of ship origins and destinations, the contents of the ships and the weight and value of the contents and a few other things which I'm not sure will be relevant to me yet. I have to find a method to represent this information graphically on maps. I've never used GIS before and I'm just wondering if it's a suitable application for this. The data is currently in .txt format and extremely large. I've never used GIS before so I need to start from the basics. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers!!

  4. Hallo everyone, I have 3 packages (DISTRICT, STATE, LINES) of geo data. Each package has the following files: .dbf .prj .shp .shx I am interested to edit lines in the layer/package DISTRICT, so that in this layer the lines between states are thicker. Some basic questions: 1. What open source programm I can use to achive this? (Can I use QuantumGIS?) 2. Which file I should edit? STATE.shp or LINES.shp? Thank you for the comments. Regards, Ratna
