limmteri
Hi there, I'm relatively new to remote sensing and incorporating it in my university project. I am attempting to compare digital aerial photographs of two dates using NDVI. I've read in various sources that it is best to convert DNs to radiance or reflectance values when carrying out NDVIs and when comparing images of two dates, however these mostly refer to satellite images. Is this a necessary pre-processing step for aerial images? And if so, how do I carry this conversion out in remote sensing software-- I currently have access to Erdas Imagine 2016 and ArcGIS10.4. I have seen a conversion tool for Landsat TM to reflectance values, but do not see where I can carry it out for an aerial image. Any help would be appreciated, Teri
pasfans01
first thing first, check your aerial images, does it recorded on panchromatic mode or multispectral mode, ? and if it is in multispectral mode, did it record at near infrared spectrum? the indication that the image has near infrared spectrum is it has fourth band which if you displayed it, it will turn green vegetation into red you cant make NDVI if you didnt have infrared filter or infrared band in your image.
