stephenhann
I have an excel spreadsheet full of post codes that I want to convert into points. If I download a raster map of the local area how would I georeference the postcodes to correlate on the map.

Team_Evil
stephenhann, if your excel file contains the latitude/longitude data, you can easly build a point shapefile and load together the raster inside arcgis or in a free gis program like QGIS. stephenhann
The excel file only contains postcode data, is there a way to georeference the postcodes in order to give latitude/longitude values?
spazzle
stephenhann From my limited experience of doing this you will need to: * Take the raster map with postcode detail's or some other feature/reference that matches your excel post code data and convert the raster and vectorise it (you may need to work out the table structure that you obtain from this process), so that you have some common features between the vector map and the postcode data. * You will then need to match the vector map data table with the excel table be able will be able to get the centroids and make a point shapefile. * Alernatively you can make a shapefile from the vector map and join the postcode data to it. Which country are you working on????? Edited November 17, 2015 by spazzle
sAnSiBaR
Why not geocoding your postcodes? If there is a database for your country, you will get back lat/lon-coordinates. http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/geocoding.html
