olluyeancah
The Huff Model is a spatial interaction model that calculates gravity-based probabilities of consumers at each origin location patronizing each store in the store dataset. From these probabilities, sales potential can be calculated for each origin location based on disposable income, population, or other variables. The probability values at each origin location can optionally be used to generate probability surfaces and market areas for each store in the study area. As a gravity model, the Huff Model depends heavily on the calculation of distance. This tool can use two conceptualizations of distance - traditional Euclidean (straight-line) distance as well as travel time along a street network. To account for differences in the attractiveness of a store relative to other stores, a measure of store utility such as sales volume, number of products in inventory, square footage of sales floor, store parcel size, or gross leasable area is used in conjunction with the distance measure. Potential store locations can also be input into the model to determine new sales potential as well as the probabilities of consumers patronizing the new store instead of other stores. The Huff Model can be used: -To delineate probability-based markets for store locations in the study area -To model the economic impact of adding new competitive store locations -To forecast areas of high and low sales potential, which can guide new store location placement or refined marketing or advertising initiatives. Software Requirements: ArcGIS 10.0 or later ArcInfo (Advanced) license Some optional settings require the Spatial Analyst and Network Analyst extensions

Arhanghelul
Is not workin Market Analysis with the Huff Model - Generic Script Tool http://arcscripts.esri.com/details.asp?dbid=15999 I tried to import the script in my ArcGIS 9.3 and is not working. The programme crashes, it closes when I open the script. I don't understand why ? The technical documentation of this sript tool says that it is compatible with ArcGIS versions 9.3 and 10. yousef2233
I saved it in 10-9.3 versions, take a look https://www.dropbox.com/sh/5qglxjpht2oazui/lbzXGtslfX
Arhanghelul
It still not working. I go to Toolbox > Add Toolbox. When I press open on your file (Market_Analysis_Tools_93.tbx) it doesn't open in the Toolboxes. Is invisible, I can't see it. Where the f## is the Market Analysis tool ?? This is very bad. I also tried with the original file that I downloaded from ESRI. Yes, the toolbox can be added but when I open the script, my ArcGIS closes, it crashes ! I don't understand. Should I install the new version of ArcGIS ? ArcGIS 10 or 10.1 ? Can you upload only the script, again ? Thx I am still using the 9.3 version because I like it. I still don't understand why it crashed when I was opening the Huff script. Now is working, because I put the latest version of Python, the ver. 3.3 I have no knoledge in using Python. Not yet. rahmansunbeam
My ArcGIS installation package had the Python2.5 version.ut I still don't understand why it crashed when I was opening the Huff script. Now is working, because I put the latest version of Python, the ver. 3.3 I have no knoledge in using Python. Not yet. Any recommendation for me to read about Python ? Something basic, for beginners ? Thank yoy ! the 2x and 3x has too many differences that using one instead of other is highly not recommended. AG library is built on 2x and depends on it. The reason 3x still works because of its backward compatibility, enables new users to avoid learning curves. If you've put both side by side thats ok, but replacing 2x for 3 will not work at some extent. Consider reinstalling 2x and repair the environmental variables (paths and libraries). You can keep 3 for testing. Me too have little knowledge on python, but do try these sometime, http://learnpythonthehardway.org/ http://shop.oreilly.com/product/9781565924642.do http://net.tutsplus.com/tutorials/the-best-way-to-learn-python/ Google for more !
Arhanghelul
rahmansunbean, thank you ! For the moment, I will leave the 3.3 Python version installed on my PC. My ArcGIS 9.3 is working ok. In the future I will update to 10.

rahmansunbeam
@yousef2233, great! Make a separate topic to hold these gems. Worthy to make sticky.
