Myths and Misconceptions about remote sensing
By rahmansunbeam,
This is a very interesting writing by Ned Horning, Center for Biodiversity and Conservation at the American Museum of Natural History. Take a look,

There is no doubt that satellite remote sensing has greatly improved our ability to conduct land cover mapping. There are limitations, however, and these are often understated or overlooked in the professional
Is it possible to classify/extract features from JPEG/TIFF image?
By stella28,
Hi Everyone,
As far as I know, this is impossible and the only way we can do this is by visual interpretation. But out of desperate need of data, the satellite images from Google Earth are all we have to assess damaged sites. I got the images as JPEG from Google Earth and made a mosaic and saved it as TIFF. The mosaic is already true color, but by any chance, does anyone know if there are algorithms/methods how to extract/classify features using a single band or true image?
Thank you an
Google Earth didn't match with other map layer

Hi,
After converting from google earth to shapefile, I've created layer from that data. Then I tried to this layer with other layer but it didn't match with each other. So, how to solve this?
Thanks
Forest stand/ecosystem changes using remote sensing techniques !
By GALL2014,
Hello everyone,
I am seeking some suggestions about time series image classification techniques. I am trying to calculate "Forest Stand" ( pant/vegetation species) within a study area ( a part of amazon rain-forest), and also identify changes in last 10 years. I do know some basic stuff about image classification (supervise and unsupervised) and change detection techniques. I wonder if there is any efficient method to accomplish my task. I have following specific questions:
1. Which sate
